Quality Elliptical By E. M. Johnson I started out my search for a quality but NOT super costly elliptical after seeing the Livestrong brand ellipticals at Dick’s Sporting Goods. I loved the Livestrong 10.0 model for $1000 and watched it for six months to see if if ever went on sale. It didn’t, not at the store or anyplace online. I did more exploration and found out that Johnson Manufacturing makes both the Livestrong and Horizon brands and are very well valued makers who have been around for years. They are likewise one of very few who offer a one year warranty on the product. Then Consumer Reports listed the Horizon EX68 as a best buy in 2010. Those are no longer available and this model is the new version of it. It took three weeks for it to get to me as this is sent by way of a local freight shipping company. I was NOT happy Amazon failed to pass my phone number on to the shipping company and they had to contact me by mail! The box fits through a usual 30″ door and it weighs 270 lbs- don’t suppose the driver to get it into the house very far beyond the door. If you live up a flight of stairs this will likely be left at the bottom. We had to carry to it piece by piece to the area it was being assembled. The wheel is the heaviest portion and unless you are a superstrong female you will need somebody with muscle to help you with it. My boyfriend gathered it in with regards to 2 and 1/2 hours. The nuts and bolts are packaged to use step by step and are glued to a piece of cardboard in order of use which he liked. The constituents were pre-greased but he did use a great deal of lithium grease (which is available in Home Depot). The tools for assemblage are also included- he pronounced the wrench was “junk” within five minutes and used his own. He said having metric tools would have made things more comfortable but was capable to use his usual SAE socket set. I brought him a couple of beers for the duration of the assemblage to keep him happy- most times he called me to hold a piece in place while he put the bolts in but in general he did it on his own. He is a gorgeous handy guy but I will say I did not overhear any muttering, swearing or complaining in regards to the instructions and assembly. (You ladies know what I’m talking regarding if you have ever been around when the assemblage of something is not going smoothly). I used the machine itself last night and was rather impressed at how quiet and smooth the operation was. It offers three basic workouts which are pre-programmed but grant you to set the amount of time you use them. My ipod plugs right in and the speakers are beauteous good for their size- it sounded fine, no distortion and without apparent effort deafening sufficient to listen for the duration of your workout. I am 5″3″ and the fan have a tendancy to blow air more at my forehead then my face, it is too bad the vent is not adaptable to direct the air where you want it. You may set any habit program you like and I did try out the differing levels of resistance and all I may say is WOW does it offer you a challenge! This model has a manual incline adjustment and it is VERY EASY to set a new incline (there are three settings). The more highpriced EX 79 has power incline but I may candidly say I do not find this feature critical unless you are somebody who wants to alter the incline mechanically for the duration of a workout and without pausing to do so. There is no doubt this is a quality piece of exercise instrumentation that is worth the $800 price tag. When my Nordictrac treadmill dies I would severely consider switching to the Johnson fictitious brands. So- this is an splendid buy and I am very happy with my choice.

Awesome! Not bouncy like most elliptical trainers. By J. Crowley I had an old Nordic Track elliptical that in the end bit the dust. I checked out a lot of of the elliptical trainers at local stores. I couldn’t believe how uncomfortable they were to use equated to the old Nordic Track. Most of the machines out there have a very bouncy stride which is not precisely easy to use. I came all over a Horizon which was very comfortable. I did further exploration and saw that the new Horizons have what is called FlatEllipse. The stride almost resembles activenesses such as walking and running. I have had the EX-69 for a few months now and love it! Very comfortable to use. It was likewise easy to put together and is a very sturdy machine. Highly recommended!

Good quality for the money. Shipment packaging needs improvement. By M.D. Ordered this item after much exploration and at the end – it all worked out.
Excellent quality, smooth – quiet operation. The consolation controls/displays could have been somewhat posing no difficulty to deal with – but they are occluded with my iPad while I am working out so it does not matter for me.
I considered ordering the next model up for automati incline but decisive to go manual incline after watching that a shorter 1-yr warranty is offered for the incline motor. I want to denigrate the amount of gadgetry that may break down.
The box arrived by way of truck – and it looked in truth beat up. Crushed corner, fist size hole patched up with shipping tape. I considered rejecting deliverance but after a close review of the harm – decisive that the contents pulled through the traveling from China (yes, I thought you were buying a made in US product but such is life these days). They must in all probability use heavier responsibility cardboard to improve the box resiliency.
All items are packed in styrofoam frames – which helped them survive. The main flywheel unit is wholly accumulated -so there is no mechanical tinkering with that.
Assembly was the best part. Clear instructions and hardware is packed in well marked blister package (photo of which I uploaded) segregated by stage. The percentage letter (like washers A and bolts B) do not show on the blister package – which would have been even better but you may work it out by looking at the diagrams.
Full assemblage took with regards to 2 hours. Second one I may in all likelihood do in than 1
Oh – there were no instructions on where to plug the power supply for the console from the wall adapter. The power port is on the elliptical flywheel unit, close to the floor.
I also commend buying a black foam exercise instrumentation pad 3.5′x6.5′ pad I purchased worked perfective to eliminate any minor residuary noise and hide the power cable, etc. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002JVFASU
All and all a good buy so far….

how are people confused by an elliptical?
Gregory
@Vickramjason breakfast= plain yogurt with fruit(usually a banana+rasberries+blueberries) and some Kashi cereal, lunch usually very light, chicken sandwich(not cold cuts) or tuna then work(my occupation is a environment restoration technician) so I get a lot of movement, then to finish the day a hardy stew or another chicken sandwich, but I pack the protein in that final meal, then go workout at the YMCA like 5mins from where I live, btw I do my elliptical workout in the early morning

i just got one for 200 bucks, its basic but its got a tension strap thats adjustable as well as fine tuning, and a calorie/time/speed and distance monitor.. i dont know how accurate it is, but just 10 mins on it feels better than a 1 hour walk! i love it!
Maryann

This is more informative than Ms Baker’s video which was lacking but what about ther regular EFX 546 or 546i? In my video I show you on the EFX 546 version 1 model. This in more of the stepper-type instead of the circular motion in which I found is the more popular type of elliptical. 5 Stars to this video. I do admit

Come here my Ebony Princess…….

They probably should have a video of the person on the thing, and not just show the upper body swaying up and down….it’s a video after all, why not show the whole body on the thing?

Booker
but yeah for using the elliptical just get some good sounding music, personally I like techno or trance or hip hop techno/trance mixes, and just go to lie the YMCA or anywhere their is a high volume amount of people because atmosphere is something I consider to keep me motivated, and yeah just don’t eat much besides what you need, for example my breakfast is plain yogurt with strawberries banana and almonds, lunch chicken sandwich(not cold cuts), Dinner like a stew or rice and fish beans and veg
Jose
I did it for about 1.5 years, but I don’t do it anymore I just go on every now and then because I am not worried about my image just maintaining my diet and moving so much which I already do is going to keep me the same basically, but I am very lean, 6ft 2, 155 pounds, I’m just starting to do weight training now so I could stay light for jumping and running because I play a lot of basketball and floor hockey
Trenton
How many weeks? Just curious. Also what shape are you in now?
Carmelo
Thanks! I posted that comment 5 months ago, I can easily do 30 minutes now (most I’ve tried), and I’ve lost about 37 pounds since then. Mostly from eating healthier though, I still don’t exercise as much as I should.
Myra
It’s a good start. Keep at it….
