Differential Evolution Practical Optimization Computing

Problems demanding globally optimal solutions are ubiquitous, yet a great deal of are intractable when they implicate constrained functions having a good deal of local optima and interacting, mixed-type variables.

The differential evolution (DE) algorithm is a practical approach to global numerical optimization which is easy to understand, simple to implement, reliable, and fast. Packed with illustrations, computer code, new insights, and practical advice, this volume explores DE in both principle and practice. It is a worthful resource for pros necessitating a proven optimizer and for students wanting an evolutionary perspective on global numerical optimization.

A associate CD includes DE-based optimization software in various programming languages.

Review

From the reviews:

“This book is in regards to an evolutionary method, called differential evolution (DE) … . It is accompanied by a CD-ROM. … the writers assert that ‘this book is designed to be easy to understand and simple to use’. Indeed, they have achieved their goal. The book is gratifying to read, entirely illustrated with figures and C-like pseudocodes … . this book is foremost addressed to engineers … . Moreover, those mesmerized in evolutionary algorithms will surely find this book to be both interesting and useful.” (Panos M. Pardalos, Mathematical Reviews, Issue 2006 g)

3An OK book on Differential Evolution
By Wuping Xin
I purchased the book merely because the writers are the initial developers of the algorithm, and hope to get some more selective information than what I learned from the creative writing of recognized artisti value (isolated person publications over the years).

4Good introduction book for DE
By Chinmay K. Desai
Some one who wants to start out with DE. This the good starting point. Book started with good conceptual backgroud and carried away with codeing details of DE. Kenneth puts sufficient attempts to clear conception behind DE. Only thing missing is that book demands little background with GAs, EAs and optimization theory.Other wise nice book for those who are familiarized with conception of evolutionary techniques.
